Sam Pollard’s Black Art: In the Absence of Light

Black Art: In the Absence of Light

Just 1.2% of artists in major North American art museum collections are Black - claims Sam Pollard’s latest HBO documentary Black Art: In the Absence of Light. And from here we get the chance to repair this obscuration with a film that dives deep into the canon of Black American art and Black curatorial practice.

Inspired by the late David Driskell’s Two Centuries of Black American Art exhibition, Black Art: In The Absence of Light refocuses our lens on questions of representation, race and the Black artistic tradition. The film is enriched by artists, scholars and historians with an impressive guest line up of pioneering artists such as Faith Ringgold, Amy Sherald, Carrie Mae Weems, Kerry James Marshall and Theaster Gates.

Don’t miss this comprehensive work, available until March 17 on HBO on demand.
